Property Description:
The Hamilton House is a 1941 California Cottage designed by Master Architect Richard S. Requa. It is sited for unobstructed views of Switzer Canyon, and it's orientation to the south and east capture the morning light and the ocean breezes. There are 6 sets of french doors leading to patio's, and terraces. Remodeled kitchen and baths make life in this home an ease. The home is Historically Designated with Mills Act Tax Savings. Buyer to verify all information prior to COE. Offering the best that San Diego has to offer, this home boasts Colonial ornamentation on the doors , molding, trim and built in shelves and cabinets compliment smooth plaster walls, hardwood floors, and an arched entry between the living room and dining room. The landscaping is lush, and the driveway of red brick, appears to wind down into the canyon. Master Architect Irving Gill developed the California Cottage in 1908-1909, during the time Requa was an understudy (1907 to 1913). This is Requa's only known 1941 adaptation of Gill's California Cottage blended with Requa's experimentation with an emerging ranch style. This new undefined architectural style was distinguished by conforming the floor elevation design to the natural topography. Requa evolved architectural attention to simple, out door living spaces and capturing sunlight inside of homes. This is an important early example of a reemerging theme of natural emphasis on health and sunlight in architectural design. The Hamilton House was Requa's last known residential project before he died, and it is a masterwork of unusual architectural style and quality that deserves merit and special attention.
